art and history.
In 2016-17, they welcomed more than half a million people to their nine major visitor attractions; the City Art Centre, Lauriston Castle, Museum of Childhood, Museum of Edinburgh, Nelson Monument, People’s Story, Queensferry Museum, Scott Monument, and Writers’ Museum. They house rich and varied collections relating to the historical and cultural life of Scotland’s capital. Their venues also boast an exciting and vibrant programme of events and exhibitions, offering something for everyone to enjoy.
The Challenge
Museums & Galleries Edinburgh, owned and run by The City of Edinburgh Council is one of the leading Scottish heritage portfolios and is part of a large group which spans the city of Edinburgh. In exploring the museum’s maze of 16th-century buildings, you will see iconic items, beautiful objects and learn fascinating facts and gruesome tales. In addition to the permanent collections, there is a regular programme of special exhibitions hosted at the museum. Museums & Galleries Edinburgh were using an antiquated till system that did not offer many useful features.
As they are part of a large group, they were using a system for events which was run by a third party. It was costing them a lot of money, but it was not providing a significant benefit in return. Initially they were looking for a system where they could manage retail but, in the end, they decided to obtain a system to meet a number of key objectives set by their management.
