How Your Scottish Attraction Could Get Funding
September 18, 2023
Given the current economic situation in Scotland and the rest of the UK, many attractions may be looking for ways to secure additional funding from governing bodies, organisations, and more to help stimulate growth and development.
In many cases, your attraction will need to fit into a specific category (or categories) to be eligible for external funding, though there are options available for any visitor attraction in Scotland to boost funds.
Read on to find out how!
1. The Heritage Lottery Fund
Do you operate an important cultural, natural, or historical heritage site? Do you try to engage and teach your visitors through interactivity? Do you have a development or project in mind that you need funding for? The Heritage Lottery Fund is for you.
The Heritage Lottery Fund is designed to help develop and grow important educational sites, helping to achieve targets and improve the visitor experience. You could use the money to improve or introduce on-site activities, introduce new staff roles, repair, or conservation work, and much more.
2. National Lottery Open Fund for Organisations
Another fantastic source of funding for cultural attractions in Scotland is the National Lottery Open Fund, which is offering between £1,000 and £10,000 to support creative projects lasting up to 18 months.
Your project could qualify if it is a one-off pursuit, research or development into the creative arts, or a long-term programme of work. It may also be viable to help with sustainability pursuits, the diversification of income streams, and organisational development costs.
Find out the specifics of the fund on the National Lottery website.
3. Museums Galleries Scotland Capital Resilience Fund
The Scottish Government have allocated an impressive £500,000 towards developing the resilience of Scottish museums, so if you oversee a non-national accredited museum, you can apply for a grant of between £5,000 and £60,000 right now.
This money can be used on projects that “directly increase the resilience of museums,” including improving on-site energy efficiency, reducing running costs, or taking steps to reduce maintenance and repair costs. Projects that have the greatest positive environmental impact will be prioritised.
To be considered for this fund, you will need to have expressed interest by Tuesday 7 November and have completed your application by Tuesday 21 November.
